Russian Railways sees Jan–Sep grain loading in St Pete rising 46%

MOSCOW, Oct 25 (PRIME) – Grain and milling products loading from St. Petersburg increased by almost 46% on the year in January–September and by 44.6% in September, a Russian Railways representative told PRIME on Wednesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kommersant business daily reported that the shortage of rail cars, already experienced by producers of salt and broken stone, may soon affect milling firms of the city because many rail cars are used for exports of grain. The government of St. Petersburg fear that the situation is fraught with a deficit of bread and a price jump.

“Russian Railways takes all the necessary measures to transport all cargoes contracted for transportation. The loading of grain and milling products from St. Petersburg increased by 44.6% on the year in September 2017, and the increase of loading since the beginning of the year stands at almost 46%,” the company representative said.

Previously, Russian Railways introduced a 10.3% discount to tariffs for exports of grain from the stations located far from seaports in the Voronezh, Tambov, Orenburg, Saratov, Novosibirsk, and Omsk regions. “It is worth noting that the right to use car rail cars to load this or that cargo is the right of owners or operators of the rail cars,” the representative said.
